WILD FLOWERS AT A GLANCE

By

Publisher: Pellegrini & Cudahy

At first glance, a very useful field guide, this, with pictures in color, carefully detailed for recognition value, and arrangement according to flower color, for quick identification. The ""out"" on the book, however, is that basically it pertains to the British Isles, and one has a feeling that the injection of comment relating to the United States is secondary (and frequently inaccurate- as in indicating that water lilies, wood anenomes, and numerous other flowers do not grow wild here). Then differences in common names will be a hurdle for the neophyte, as for example with golden rod and wood violet. Having disposed of the weaknesses from the American point of view, let's stress the values:- compactness, attractive format, ease of use, number of wild flowers included, conciseness of descriptive text.
