There is no attempt to gauge costs (never applicable nationally) but rather a cost estimating chart which takes into account essentials from invitations to receptions covering four types of ceremonies. The admonition that ""before the engagement is official, a man cannot correctly give, or the girl properly accept an intimate present of any kind"" seems not quite of this day and age, but as a guide to who stands where and does what, announcement intricacies re divorced parents, and all activities surrounding nuptials, it's succinct and helpful. Mostly for lace-and-ribbon brides and parents determined to make the best of it, even when the groom insists on wearing a white turtleneck and sneakers.
