Meg Atkins has written other novels, such as The Shadows of the House (1969), comparable to this one. This takes two witching hours at most and is set in England where Augustus Wynter who once made creature features lives in a ""spidery, sinister Gothic"" house with assorted handmaidens. His former star has died, his niece disappeared. Then there's Inspector Henry Beaumont whose aunt once read tarot cards and who still ""ornts"" the house he's living in: and Cass, an inconclusive, teasing young woman who comes in and out while Beaumont searches for the lost girl. Samain by the way is a pagan festival when the dead return. A little too pretty to be anything more than disquieting but a pleasant dissolve between worlds in the vapor of ""Je Reviens.
