Mario sang early. Mario sang late. Nobody listened. His father told him to do his homework. Mario even auditioned for Maestro Renaldi so that he might sing from the bandstand at the Feast of San Gennaro. But when he opened his mouth Fear held his vocal chords and no sound emerged. With the help of the hurdy gurdy man Mario did sing at the festival and even the renowned Maestro Renaldi thought he sang like an angel. The exuberant illustrations in full color done by the author portray the jovial crowds of an Italian neighborhood in a big city. Children who live in such areas might enjoy the story.
