HYMIE'S FIDDLE

Hymie lives in the lively cluttered world of New York's lower East side. And though he and his younger sister, Penny, are devoted to the pushcarts and the feel of pavement, Hymie is a dreamer and yearns for forests and lakes he has never seen. Professor Noodle, also a dreamer, but of more advanced years than little Hymie, recognizes the boy as a kindred spirit and decides that he is a genius, a great musician. Hymie's musical education and his unfortunate lack of facility are described here in simple but evocative language.
