THE FRIGHTENED ONES

Five- two novelettes and three short stories- pass time pleasantly and with the exception of one suspense story, deal with domestic situations. A man's consuming concern with his business costs him his family, but his sense of isolation lasts only during the days in which he fears his wife may die; a girl marries a divorced man, publicly pitied for his shrewish wife, only to become his second victim; an officious parent- of a hopeless student, subverts the school system; a countess and a minister collaborate to prevent a crime- and cause another; and an exposure to fear, as a killer makes a prison escape, changes the pattern of the lives he threatens..... A perishable if proficient form of entertainment- for women to rent.
