TITO'S HATS

The first of a series of inexpensive, new juveniles, with good format, and an effort made to select authors and artists with an up-to-date feel. On the whole I felt them less good than the similar series on Grosset's juvenile list. The color work was not so good; the art work tended towards the modernistic, little of which goes over well with those most conservative of conservatives, the children. Tito's Hats is a picture story book of a little Mexican boy, who tries to find a hat in the market place -- and finds them all too small. So he has a hair cut and goes back for a hat that will then fit.
