Fortune in their November 1938 did a beautiful job which is the nearest analogy to this book. They covered the same field -- there were better photographs -- there seemed more depth of meaning to the text. This is a puzzling book. On first examination it might be a juvenile, but closer inspection shows that it needs more background than even the average layman has on matters pertaining to the Navy. There are statistics, charts, tables, but they are not complete nor conclusive, so it doesn't rank as a reference book. There is no index. A nice book for a quick pick-up, and the man knows his stuff, and has presented it carefully, accurately.
