KIRKUS REVIEW

The first all-round lumbercamp story that I remember. The Adams had come naturally by lumbering in Northern Michigan -- but Steve didn't think he'd get his chance. Then came the mysterious disappearance of Gord, following his first year, and it was up to Steve to solve it. Lumbering, the log drive, camp watcher --three seasons gave him a chance to see the good and bad of lumbering, and of the men who made up the crews. But the mystery was still unsolved, though the cause had been revealed. It took a forest fire to bring Gord back -- and to make Steve see that he wanted to be a ranger. Good yarn.
