KIRKUS REVIEW

A brief fantasy about Shem and Doon, two children in search of their father, who surprise a whole village by their nonchalant attitude toward a terrifying ogre. The monster is subdued by the courage of Shem and Doon born of a determination to free their father -- a prisoner of the ogre. Strains of many familiar tales run through this, but we recommend it nonetheless. The lilting poetic quality of the prose gently urges one to read aloud -- an activity both reader and listener will find extremely rewarding.
