ENCOUNTER WITH CHRIST by Merrill R. Abbey

ENCOUNTER WITH CHRIST

Pub Date: Sept. 11th, 1961
Publisher: Abingdon Press

An efficient exposition of representative episodes from the Gospel according to St. John in search of a vivid contemporary message. Abbey writes especially for those who use the bible ""as a source of light and strength for daily living"". In his choice of episodes Mr. Abbey has done much to bring out the everyday emphasis of that Gospel. For example, in his chapter on Saviour of the Self-Sufficient, he goes a long way to allay fears. In Dare to Live based on the story of the woman of Samaria, he effectively points out that, no matter what our problems, a companionship with Christ will bring to the fore understanding and solution. The stress is upon the whole Christ, both human and divine. To understand Him, to be one with Him, is to find God and solve the problems of living. The book goes far towards merging the practical with the devotional. Honestly read, it cannot but enrich the life of the seeker of peace.
