PREACHING TO THE CONTEMPORARY MIND by Merrill R. Abbey Kirkus Star

PREACHING TO THE CONTEMPORARY MIND

By

Publisher: Abingdon

There is no doubt that the Gospel must be related to the situation of the world in which it is preached, and so interpreted that the world may be able to understand the relevance. Dr. Merrill R. Abbey, professor of preaching at Garrett Theological Seminary, in Evanston, Ill. makes this the burden of this book. He tells how to ""get inside"" the fast moving, contemporary mind, with the besetting preoccupation with secularism, freedom, the world crisis and character crisis, but all fraught with preaching opportunities which the preacher cannot afford to miss. Such a book as this finds its chief value in bringing into focus the diffused and often blurred outlines of the existential world of thought and action that the Christian Gospel may be seen more clearly as intended for just such a world as this. All Protestant ministers and lay readers will find this one of the most useful books to come along in recent months.
