This is a frontier story, laid in , of young Bob Evans, half English, half American, who determined to see more of America before deciding on his future more throw in his lot with the great explorer and trapper, Jededish Smith, and goes with him on the grilling journey from St. Louis to Great Salt Lake, and then on to California over the desert, a way that no white man had ever traveled before. Excellent characterisations and good reading from beginning to end. It should have a wide appeal for boys as young as 12 and for elder boys, and anyone who enjoys an exciting pioneer tale well grounded in truth.
