Thirteen carols in this unlucky collection: the pictures are brightly, breezily flamboyant, but so large that they dwarf the already diminutive music staves; and that's disconcerting to the young pianist whose ""first books"" usually have those big round notes... But then ""first books"" are usually easy to play -- which these chorale-style arrangements are not particularly (and it's too bad the same moving-part kind of accompaniment is repeated in every single song). The five recognizably traditional carols are easy enough to sing, but relative obscurity is the only virtue of others, and three more are familiar foreign tunes disguised by English words and titles like ""Blow the Trumpet and Bang the Drum"" (""Il est Ne, le Divin Enfant""). Simon's Treasury... and the Boni-Lloyd Favorite Christmas Carols offer more, better -- though this is pretty to put on your piano if you like your Kings in coats of many colors.
