THE STORY OF ITALIANS IN AMERICA by Michael A. Musamanno

THE STORY OF ITALIANS IN AMERICA

By

Publisher: Doubleday

A patriotic minestrone of people and personalities past and present who have contributed to the American way of life and created the Italian one as well. For this volume in the ""Your Ancestors"" series also includes the major figures in the history of the homeland since the founding of Rome, as the author vaults back and forth across the Atlantic. Mr. Musamanno, who has himself served in various capacities, including as defense counsel of Sacco and Vanzetti, a naval officer and military governor of Sorrento during World War II (these facts pop out of the topsy-turvy text at intervals) eagerly studs his story with the names of men in the arts, sports, politics, science, theology and also deals in hearts with stories of immigrant sons and the Immigrant Mother. Garibaldi and Guy Lombardo, Dante and La Guardia, Machiavelli and the Mafia are all served up with the same spoon. While lacking taste, this may prove a heartening dish for those among the 21,000,000 Americans of Italian descent ready to cheer for the home team and assuredly points up their many and varied accomplishments.
