Belongs to the hardboiled school of fiction, but with more warmth than the usual run. Oblique in approach, and a challenging first novel. The story of a newspaper man trying, through working for a girl who has been ""framed"" to forget his love for the wife who has left him for another man. There is a double tragedy, in the story of the son, who adores his father. The background is the newspaper life of the West Coast. A man's book primarily. I should say.
