THE REAL BOOK ABOUT GREAT AMERICAN JOURNEYS

Disappointingly fragmentary in spots, this tells of half a dozen or so early American treks- from the voyage of the Pilgrim Fathers to Harriet Tubman's Underground Railway activities. Others included are the explorations of La Salle, the scouting of Jim Bridger, the first settlers in Oregon, the pilgrimage of the Mormons. But incomplete ties with the rest of history,- for example the mere mention of Roger Williams at the end of the chapter on the Plymouth settlement,- may leave readers in a vacuum.
