THE REAL BOOK ABOUT ABRAHAM LINCOLN by Michael Gorham

THE REAL BOOK ABOUT ABRAHAM LINCOLN

By

Less of a man-and-era biography than an affectionate collection of almost legendary stories about the great President. However, it is a pleasure to see so many of the touching, heart-warming and amusing cracker barrel anecdotes gathered in one book. The narrative outlines the cabin to White House story, but it is through the memorable tales which illustrate the actual and legendary goodness and wit of Lincoln that his personality becomes real for the young reader. Young Abe's rescue of a dog from abandonment, the famous ferry controversy, the President-elect's gracious response to a small admirer who asked him to grow whiskers -- all such cherished stories which give rise to reverence for an American heritage and an ideal -- are included here.
