PLURIBUS

Sf Dark Ages cum wild-and-woolly frontier, in which a colony of Earthlings stranded on Mars keep in tenuous communication with the last enclaves of technology on depopulated Terra. Two just-too-lovable young people and an even more aggressively lovable old man (wry Jewish Mensch, to the nth degree) travel by wagon from California to Chicago, to rendezvous with an emergency mission to land vaccine from Mars before Earth succumbs to a new mutation of the virus that once wiped out most of humanity. Kurland can't make up his mind whether to be poignant or cute, and winds up being just dim.
