MICHAEL MARON'S INSTANT MAKEOVER MAGIC

How to look beautiful through artful makeup application: a relatively un-obsessive program, illustrated with loads of fun pictures of famous ladies without any makeup on at all. Maron, of course, is makeup artist for the stars, and somehow he convinced the likes of Carol Burnett, Virginia Mayo, Lynn Redgrave, Mariette Hartley, June Allyson, Juliette Prowse, Peggy Fleming, and Lynda Carter (among others) to contribute before- and after-makeup pictures. (The befores, in many cases, are practically unrecognizable.) Maron describes ""natural features"" of each (Peggy has ""thick natural brows, light blue-green eyes with dark lashes, discoloration around eyes, some freckles, natural recessed cheeks, very high cheekbones"") and her daily beauty regimen. All this is by way of illustrating Maron's makeup tips step-by-step: blemish cover, concealer, foundation, highlighter, contour shadow, face powder, blusher, eye makeup, eyebrows, lip color, and (an optional step) ""showing off your nose to its best."" The directions are easy to follow (Maron's not of the slop-and-glob school, so no clown-faces should result), and the stress throughout is on accepting the natural you. But far and away the best part is finding out what all those other ladies do.
