PEACE AND RECONSTRUCTION by Michael O'Shaughnessy

PEACE AND RECONSTRUCTION

Designed primarily for a Catholic market, this is a Catholic layman's discussion of post-war problems, when the ""hope of mankind rests on liberty, justice and charity"". In pretty vague terms, this -- proposals of what needs to be done, but never the means to the end, with illustrations from the Pope's recommendations to the American Bishops' Program. A reconstruction of capitalism -- full employment -- the evils of corporations, the N.A.M. and labor unions; social security; cooperation between nations; equitable tariffs; greater civic responsibility on the part of government officials; and the profound importance of religion. Perfect valid -- but not adequately sustained.
