KIRKUS REVIEW

As close to home as ""My Dad's thumb"" and as manic as the fantasy of how ""My brother got married in a wimpy bar,"" these verses are reeled off in an uninflected English accent so pronounced that some of the brash humor might pass American kids right by. Read aloud there'd be no problem (""It's not 'shield and sheaf'/ it's 'bubble and squeak' round here""), and most of these bits sound like they must have been made for radio. On paper they tend to be garrulous and rambling -- but studded with enough silly lines to inspire those juvenile wits who can penetrate the small-print giddiness and ha'penny jokes.
