TOWARD AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE U.S.S.R.

This should be a ""Must Book"" for everyone who visits the Soviet building at the N. Y. World's Fair! For here is the clearest presentation of the background of Old Russia and the successive changes of government from that period to the present. An objective study that makes one realize the tremendous problems, the numerous failures, the extraordinary achievements. Governmental planning and its attendant bureaucracy is thoroughly analyzed, and the fact accepted that the ""machine"" is firmly entrenched and -- with its purges and horrors and its special privileges, displaying the worst forms known to capitalistic states. A book that shows the best and the worst and the middle ground; not easy reading but valuable for an honest appreciation.
