HEADLONG FROM HEAVEN

Originally reported 3/15 for May publication, as follows:- ""When Mr. Branken accidentally shoots his secretary, it is his wife, Wanda, who does the covering up, persuades him into silence, and it is she who does not hesitate when the resulting blackmail becomes too loathsome. Mr. Branken turns to drink for escape, while Wanda determines to win back an old lover. She at last realizes her failure and does not balk at killing again. Chained to a private hell, the Brankens' life together is ruined, their spirit is shattered by their enforced companionship. Just as the last links are joined by the Deputy Commissioner, the Brankens' hysteria rises to a fatal end. South African setting for a story, of some power, of moral cravens.
