KIRKUS REVIEW

Back in Vietnam after aborting a coup in The Two-Star Pigeon, Signal Corps Captain Michael Keefe finds himself working with his statuesque lady spook superior, Tiny (a WAC Colonel), on a rather irregular mission. Their orders: recovering ""Duke"" Bostwick III, a West Point blueblood who's been ""Missing--Presumed Captured"" in 'Nam for the past three years. The incredible ransom demand--a million rounds of rifle ammunition--is met somewhere in the godforsaken jungles. Still, Operation Home Run becomes a foul-out when the hostage (whoever he is) turns out to be a ""lousy renegade"" hoping to expand his own army. The third time around for Keefe is a distinct improvement--anything but a Chinese water torture.
