NIGHT RIDE

The gifted, popular French author-illustrator describes what happens when Gabriel's Dad takes a nap in the back of their van and it gets caught on the back of a truck full of circus animals. Parked until traffic gets lighter, Dad is unaware that they're off on an unexpected journey. Meanwhile, a monkey, a bear, and even a tiger climb from truck to van before it makes an astonishing landing in the middle of the circus. Gay's vigorous, bold line and subtle use of bright and nighttime color effectively portray the humor and delight of his fantasy. With plenty of action, a good choice to keep the picture book crowd entranced.
