KIRKUS REVIEW

In her first picture book, the author of Good Night, Mr. Tom (1982) tells about a small boy whose slightly older sister looks out for him when he first goes to day care; the next year, when she starts school, he feels small and left out until he finds a new role: as special friend to a younger boy who's just starting day care. Hale's gentle, decorative illustrations reflect the story's warmth and security. An unusually attractive, perceptive book about a preschooler's adjustment to change.
