Another insufferably chic, developmentally off-base outing from the creators of the Urban Babies Wear Black series, only this one isn't even as funny for grown-ups as the others (Jet-Set Babies Wear Wings, 2009, etc.). Dion’s muted, pattern-heavy images provide a wan counterpoint to Colman's declarative text, which offers little opportunity for expansion. "Sporty babies dribble": A baby in a high chair drools as mom's hand steers a spoonful of pink yogurt toward it. "Sporty babies sprint": A baby with diaper only partially installed gleefully eludes dad’s pursuing hands. Ho-hum. As before, much of the text as well as all of the humor is hopelessly out of baby-and-toddler reach: "Sporty babies need caddies" (dads with diaper bags push babies in strollers); "Sporty babies stay hydrated." This joke has run its course—real babies want books for them, not their parents. (Board book. 1-3)
