KIRKUS REVIEW

Old biddies in a tiny, English picture-postcard village gossip about the reclusive, bejeweled Mrs. Charles, a clairvoyant who, in another town some years back, had a different name and the unproved label of ""murderess."" Now there's a local bludgeoning, and Mrs. Charles couldn't seem guiltier, even to level-headed, retired Superintendent Sayer, who's investigating unofficially. And lethargically--which is how everyone functions here, Mignon Warner included, resulting in an inoffensive, surpriseless tiptoe that relies on the suspect charms of cream teas and garden walks.
