KIRKUS REVIEW

As a great admirer of Sigrid Undset, novelist, I am disappointed in her shortcomings as a spinner of tales for young people. She has an oddly round-about-Robin-Hood-barn way of telling what, in the last analysis, is a fairly simple story. The fact of its being set in the 13th century seems to me to demand simplicity rather than the reverse in recounting the adventures of a trio of lads who played games based on their national heroes and came a cropper. They took refuge in the maintain summer farmhouse, and stumbled into real adventure, but proved their true courage and earned the right to serve their young king. Illustrations in flat color by a famous artist, Gunver Bull Teilman.
