KIRKUS REVIEW

Just when readers thought they were in the pink, here comes a book that puts the human body under the microscope. Similar to Yuck! (1996), which examined household micromarvels, this entry in the Science Photo Library series shows parts of the body magnified thousands of times in kaleidoscopic glimpses of a hidden world. In a guessing game format that makes use of gate-fold pages, readers learn that spinning planets are really photos of the human eye, pink worms are new hair growths, and exploding purple cabbages are really tastebuds on the tip of the tongue. The alien landscapes of the human head, tongue, tooth, eye, skin, blood, bones, and internal organs are among the displays; neon-enhanced, textured- looking surfaces demand exploration in this fairly new way of examining the world on us and in us. It's a book that will promote good hygiene--readers will want to wash their hands after reading it. (Nonfiction. 5-10)
