KIRKUS REVIEW

Fathers James Killgallon and Gerard Weber collaborated in 1958 in preparing Life In Christ -- still one of the finest adult Catechisms available. Now happily they've again written a twentieth century Imitation Of Christ in Beyond the Commandments. Plaudits are due the authors for this excellent study which demonstrates forcibly that being a truly mature Catholic involves far more than a strict keeping of rules and regulations. Rather the mature Catholic sees the Christian life for what it is: a life of love, and keeps the necessary rules as ways of showing this love. Positive -- not negative- attitudes are stressed throughout each chapter as the author dolve into modern man's approach to prayer, the sacraments, the Mass, sanctity and sex and charity. Beyond the Commandments is the direct kind of spiritual guidance needed now by Catholic laymen who are finally becoming aware that their mission on earth is to enter fully into the whole life and work of the church.
