This is a romanticized story of the Indian girl who was America's princess. The book is in two parts -- the first heavy with Indian ceremony and ritual, Indian names and ; the second dealing with the white man and the famous romance with John Rolfe. The whole is intense and emotional, with both the white and the Indians greatly glorified. With so little factual material to go on, one must suppose this is all greatly fictionalized. It is pretentious in style and a bit complex in its plot and counterplot. I find it puzzling to know for what audience it is suited. Its title suggests teen-age readers for whom it seems too elaborate.
