DOM PEDRO OF BRAZIL

Here is the second biography of this juvenile season dealing with Dom Pedro. This one meets the needs of younger readers than the other (American Emperor-P.340) An uncomplicated story of this interesting figure who gained a reputation for warmth, and a spirit of democracy. Called the People's Emperor and the Yankee Emperor, he built for himself a career that was of dramatic interest as well as historical importance, and the author makes the most of both. Competent biography -- simple, direct style, successful picturing of family relationships and human side of a great man.
