Mystery fiction of superior plotting, characters and style. Crystal Benson's hard sought security as owner of a newspaper in Candlewood, Ariz., as a power in politics, as a respected churchwoman, as a well-beloved mother -- is at long last threatened, and the danger she had sought to escape once before encompasses every moment of breathing and sleeping. For the husband she had let stand trial for killing her, who had been jailed because of her silence, had at last tracked her down and would let nothing stand in the way of his revenge. That they both lose at last makes a good, tight story.
