All little girls who are sure they are too ""medium"" to be beautiful or lovable will delight in this story of Tallie, the earnest little orphan, and the gay family with whom she lived. Tallie was sure that the Jarretts would never want to keep her, for she had been ""taken"" with the understanding that she would be company for Celia, the only girl Jarrett and rather spoiled, and Tallie only seemed to antagonize Celia. When the Jarretts move to an abandoned chicken farm in Philadelphia and turn it into a Motel, Tallie slowly discovers that she has become one of the family through her helpfulness, of fun and ""just being herself"". The Jarretts are an amusing family and have some antertaining neighbors. A warm-hearted, spirited adventure.
