KIRKUS REVIEW

On the threshold of her college career, Dinny is more than reluctant to leave the Lake Eri Island where she has grown up and enter the foreign world of the mainland. When a sudden hail plays havoc with her father's peach crop, she is forced to postpone her college education for one year, during which time she works both in the orchard and as her father's housekeeper. A tentative brush with romance, and the self esteem she gains by successfully undertaking responsibility from which, previously, she has been sheltered, render her more mature and able to accept the challenge of new experience. Mildred Lawrence, author of Good Morning My Heart and Along Comes Spring writes sympathetically of apprehensive adolescence, integrating her plot with an interesting view of an obscure locals.
