KIRKUS REVIEW

Another excellent life of the woman who established nursing on the field of battle (during our Civil War) and who brought the Red Cross to this country. The Nolan biography -- see page 70 in the last bulletin -- has scooped the story, for almost every incident told in this biography is told also in that one. This text, however, might be used with somewhat younger readers, twelve and thirteen year olds, since the author does not attempt to analyse the psychological factors of her career. There is not quite an much detail -- the book is easier going for younger readers.
