KIRKUS REVIEW

This annual collection from Ellery Queen's Mystery-Magazine prize-winning stories is an admirable and varied one. There is humor and horror, surprise endings and no endings, highbrow and Holmesian deductions- by a scoundrel sleuth, psychiatrist detectives, an Italian organ grinder with a passion for justice, an Australian aborigine, etc. First prize goes to Alfredo Segre, and the past masters are represented by Helen McCloy, Q. Patrick, Philip MacDonald, Clayton Rawson, Hugh Pentecost, Brett Halliday. There are a number of new, little known, or foreign authors. Up to its usual top standard, this will do nicely without pushing, among the fans.
