A small English village witnesses the killings of two substitute doctors while its own g.p. is in the service. Apparently motiveless murders, the second brings about an investigation of the first by Arnold of the Yard and Captain Merrion and inquiry among the local gentry and villagers leads to an unexpected turn of affairs. Deliberate, even dull.
