A FIRST LOOK AT ANIMALS THAT EAT OTHER ANIMALS

An introduction to cats, dogs, bears, weasels, raccoons, and other carnivores. As with other titles in the ""A First Look"" series, the soft-pencil illustrations are as important as the brief text in encouraging young children to look carefully at similarities and differences between animals. Unfortunately, the poorly drawn illustrations here cause some problems in doing so. For example, the authors state that ""The largest member of the dog family is the gray wolf,"" and on the facing page that ""The coyote is a small wolf."" In the illustrations, however, the coyote appears much larger than the wolf. In another illustration, the raccoon appears to be nearly as large as the bear, while the cheetah is largest of all. Children may enjoy looking at these animals, but won't Find them especially helpful in learning to make comparisons.
