KIRKUS REVIEW

As a biography of St. Augustine, this follows the main lines of its narration in his own Confession and concentrates on his early life up to the time of his conversion. In a simple, direct style, revealing episodes and fictionalized conversations help recreate character and events so that the young and very human Augustine, with his religious and moral difficulties which he resolves by complete surrender to God, will appeal to young people beset by similar problems today. A good use of source material with interesting handling of geographical and historical detail, give depth to the story.
