Perhaps the translation from Italian to English is too literal; certainly the recurring ""bravos"" and ""hurrahs"" are not effective in our language. The story is not unique-- being only a slight variation of the bad-knight-captures-princess-good-knight-saves-princess theme. It is the illustration which make the book different; the Picasso-like use of color and design to figures is effective here--some pictures are excellent, -- excellent because despite his far-out technique, the artist has not forgotten that children make up his critical public.
