STRAVINSKY IN THE THEATER

A collection of critical excerpts about Stravinsky and his relation to the theater which he was to ""musicalize"" and where he was ""most spectaculary effective"". A great many contributors here (such as Jean Cooteau, Aaron Copland, Pierre Monteux, Carlos Chavez, Lincoln Kirstein, Balanchine, Dahl, etc. etc.) give their comments not only on the individual works, but also on the ultimate contribution he has made with his many ballets- and the projected opera still to come, and they interpret his themes, his style, his instrumentation, his innovations, his influence, etc. The appendix includes a chart of the important dates in his career, the recordings made of his works, and a bibliography including periodicals as well as books. Of special value, in a specialist's market, largely ballet.
