KIRKUS REVIEW

Fifty designs from 17 countries: a personal selection containing many kinds of work rarely seen in American craft books--17th-century Dutch needlepainting, antique shawls, Victorian beadwork, Dahomey appliquÉ. Mira Silverstein provides effective commentary and clear instructions for adaptations of these items and includes appealing photographs: most have bright threads or backgrounds and the full color sets them off to advantage. As a single source, it's both broad and representative, offering less traveled territories to new or experienced hands.
