MARTHA'S MAD DAY by Miranda Hapgood

MARTHA'S MAD DAY

Small in scale and light of touch, the perceptively observed all-day sulk of Martha who wakes up feeling mean and seems determined to stay that way. Martha throws Pig, her stuffed animal, on the bedroom floor, and later gives her breakfast the same treatment. Exiled outdoors, she avoids her parents 'til dinner time and, still mad at 9:30, chooses to put herself to bed. Hapgood lets her work it out herself (as she does in bed, with an apology to Pig) and McCully's simple, uncluttered line drawings catch the grumpy mood throughout.
