HERMAN, THE BRAVE PIG

An absurd tale about a farmer who was persuaded to buy an unseen farm on Sunshine Island, and to take his little family on the long trek from home -- and of how the island was inhabited by rattlesnakes which made it unlivable until Herman, the brave pig, found rattlesnakes his favorite game, and rid the island of the pest. Danny had acquired the runt of a litter, named it Herman, and fed it even when the family went hungry on the trip south. So Herman grew and prospered and eventually rewarded the family. A rather silly story, with pictures by Doris and George Hauman. Vocabulary and type designed for second and third grade readers, but a story better for younger children.
