The publishers call this a ""first book of verse"", but we find it pedestrian as to verse and utterly unappealing as to drawings. Perhaps Augusta M. Kelley has virtues in other fields of art -- we wouldn't know. She certainly has no gift for illustrating a book for children. The jacket is attractive -- striking a note of good merchandise, though, in even a few days, we found it perishable and the board began to buckle. Pretty dull book, with everyday subjects the basis for the verses.
