THE MAJOR AND HIS CAMELS

A humanized story about the camels imported by the Army in 1852 to work the desert between Texas and California has for its heroes Major Bertie and three pet camels, and for its plot, a thwarted road building project. The Major, Chili, Finefellow, newborn Tibboo Funnyface, and all the other camels journey safely to Texas. Then subsequent mishaps come from a mean anti-camel mulewhacker and the major's capture by Indians. Later he's rescued by the camels and marries an orphaned girl Tiboo befriends along the way.
