THE GIRL WHO WOULD RATHER CLIMB TREES by Miriam Schlein

THE GIRL WHO WOULD RATHER CLIMB TREES

By

Pub Date: Oct. 15th, 1975
Publisher: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich

To counteract the thinness of this obviously topical trifle Schlein begins by listing a lot of Melissa's different roles--there is Melissa the birdwatcher. . . Melissa the roller skater. . . the puzzle doer. . . reader. . . ballplayer. . . but it's only Melissa the reluctant mother we meet here when her grandmother, her mother and her mother's friend present her with an unwanted doll and carriage. Melissa's solution is a bright one--warning ""Shh, Dolly's asleep,"" she tiptoes out of her room and off to the park to climb trees--but whether it's bright enough to light up a whole book is another question.
